Group Consciousness and The Age of Aquarius

By Julia Griffin

In this time of prophecy, new beginnings, and the end of time, we are moving into our power as co-creators. As the astrological clock turns from Pisces to Aquarius, new energies are awakening on our planet. We are learning to create in groups and to expand group consciousness for world evolution.

Much of the spiritual information has been said or written about by ancient philosophers including Lao Tzu, Socrates, Buddha, Christ, Zen masters and alchemists. The union with the One and/or the All remains the same sacred mystery. Nature continues with her alchemical processes, demonstrating the "truth" daily for all those who are open to receive.

The "new" aspect of this age lies in the quest of individuality and mystical impact of the individual within the group. We have the opportunity to interact consciously as an individual in the group as evolving as planetary co-creators. We are learning to understand how to create and evolve together.

Many of us have joined together at the same time for this act of creation. It is not so much about a few individuals teaching enlightenment, but about many individuals experiencing enlightenment simultaneously. Our evolution is about moving forward, as a conscious co-creator within a group that is seeking higher consciousness.

Through unity, we have the opportunity of experiencing truth and enlightenment at one time as one people. Through our evolution as individuals, we are beginning to grasp the power of consciously focused group experiments. We also learn how to refine our own energies through our group efforts, thus becoming more adept at receiving and sending energy through the field.

As we learn to connect with others through the Akashic Field , the possibilities and potential are enormous. When we access The Field — known as the place of love, spiritual knowledge, and wisdom -we access the potential for raising our consciousness and the frequency of the earth through unconditional love. When we co-create at the highest level, the energy of the group becomes much more than its sum.

If we consider the impact of 400,000 people meditating on higher consciousness for 40 days, then it's easy to see the possibilities. Let's look at a couple of intentional experiments.

Intention Experiments

In the 90's, a friend, Corrine Champigny, meditated 8 hours a day with 6,000 people in Washington, DC. The crime rate was decreased by thirty-five percent at the end of the two month experiment. The intent of the experiment was to send light and love.

In a scientific study of remote healing, 40 AIDS patients were divided into 2 groups. Both groups received the same protocol of food, medication and treatment. The experiment involved sending the photographs of the one of the groups were sent to 40 religious and spiritual teachers, all with diverse methods of treatment. The healers each had 5 photographs, name and T-cell count. Each was asked to meditate on the person for one hour daily for six days each week with the intention of health and well-being. The photographs were rotated each week so that each healer worked with each patient. The patients had no knowledge of who was or wasn't included in the healing experiment. Fifty statistical tests proved that the results were inescapable. At the end of the experiment, the health of every patient in the "prayer group" improved dramatically. Follow-up tests showed that the healing continued over time. (40% of the control population died.)1

NOTE: Imagine for a moment sending the intention of healing and well-being to the photograph of the people who are in your inner circle, the people for whom you feel love. What might be the effect of fifteen minutes of meditation?

Possible Factors in Group Consciousness

There are many factors in group consciousness. We are probably only beginning to grasp the force of the play of energies that accompany our group endeavors. For the moment, here are a few obvious factors.

Intention is a definite factor in manifestation. It's important to have an intention of higher consciousness and a connection to "light", evolution and higher good for both yourself and the group. It's even more important to connect to the Field. Your overall attitude should improve, and you should feel more positive after the class or group meditation.

Integrity of the speaker or the person who is the creator of the group influences everyone. The underlying desire should be to share knowledge and truth through love and service. What is the creator's purpose for presenting the materials and information to the group and whether the group exists to create a transformational experience; simply to have an audience; or fulfill the requirement of a job?

The individuals in a group can affect the overall manifestation. The level of consciousness of the individuals in a group plays a part in the creation, a well as the energy level of each member. It takes energy to create in the physical world. We can use our intuition to decide if a group is right for us. We can also decide which parts of the lesson or lecture align with our personal truth and consciously apply the information.

Unconditional love may be one of the most important factors in co-creating with group consciousness. This love, which results from contact with Akashic Field, comes from our heart space. It is there that the resolution of duality takes place, and we can feel the answers even if a conscious answer does not appear. By moving into the heart space, we learn how to access the Field, to move into the place of miracles and endless possibility.

Creating Consciously with the Group

Why should we create consciously with a group? The answer is that we are already creating subconsciously and semi-consciously with the group. Some people express a fear of creating from the ego or creating incorrectly. We already know how to do that. From an objective viewpoint, we can only become better with our skills, particularly from the concept of connection with the higher mind and the heart.

Whether or not we choose to participate in a group, we can choose to note our current participation when we read, watch media broadcasts and participate in conversation. All of these seemingly unconscious or semi-conscious acts of participation are factors in co-creation. We can awaken by observing our inner dialog and beliefs and examine the how and why of our beliefs. By noticing how we create with group consciousness, we open to possibility of greater conscious choice.

Methods of Group Co-creation

Whether individually or through group consciousness, three methods of co-creation seem apparent:

Subconsciously — We create without awareness, and, are influenced by patterns of the ego and mass consciousness or the group subconscious. Individually, we experience this as recurring patterns in our lives. Examples of group consciousness could include

Semi-consciously — We create from partially from awakened intent and partially from our subconscious mind

Consciously — We consciously create with heart-felt intentions, while observing the patterns of the subconscious and ego. We master the patterns through this process.

Subconscious group creation

Years ago, I attended with a workshop led by Barbara Handclow, vice-president of Bear and Company. She said, "There is no need for the government to brainwash anyone. You are already doing that for yourself. Every night, you watch the news. You are all willing participants in the government's plan."

The nightly news is probably the largest meditation group in the United States. It is held each night with a majority of our populace in attendance. Everyone listens, watches and feels strong emotion as the television broadcasts war, sickness, hunger, poverty in living color. The emotions of anger, despair and helpless are invoked from the group. The amplified feelings and thoughts are then subconsciously radiated into the "field".

By focusing on poverty, loss, and war through group focus, we vibrate it into form. When we focus on the negative without a desired solution and project the negative, then this will be the net sum of our experience. This equation is simple, but it is fascinating to consider the amazing possibilities if we used the same hour for spiritual meditation. What might happen by relinquishing our voluntary participation in negativity?

Semi- Conscious Creation

We also create through semi-conscious thought. We might consider how much is created by focusing on scientific research or believing in negative physical symptoms that are associated with our New Age?

Last summer, I read two scientific journals about the extinction of important species, specifically honey bees and frogs. I noticed a few days later that the frogs and honey bees that were previously abundant had disappeared. I realized that I believed the information in the article. After visualizing honeybees and frogs for a few days, they promptly reappeared.

Another example is our current focus on the "New Earth". The concept of the New Earth was mainly generated from the West Coast of the United States. One year later, we are experiencing substantial plate tectonic movement in Pacific and on the West Coast. New Earth is born on the geological plane through plate tectonic movement, which also causes earthquakes and tidal waves. This type of geologic movement also creates magma, or lava that bubbles up through the cracks in ocean floor as " new earth".

If thousands of people who are fairly enlightened focus on a concept, the result, in this case, can be literal on the physical plane. As the new earth is created out of this movement, we have the additional input of those who believe in the "end times" and world cataclysm. There are probably many more factors in this equation, but it's interesting to see how our consciousness can possibly affect reality.

On the positive side, the people who wrote about the New Earth probably had excellent intentions, but we tend to create our experience in our own sphere. It might have been more conducive to imagine a "happy, balanced earth" right here and now, as opposed to the concept of a new earth in the future. Because we didn't refine the concept, our minds translated the concept literally and created it in the place of its inception.

This is an example of a semi-conscious creation. We were conscious of creating a positive future but not really conscious of how or where we were creating it. It is essentially an opportunity to learn to direct our energies more skillfully.

Conscious Creation

On the highest level, we create with unconditional love. We feel our connection. Regardless of the words or the message, we feel the connection, and we create with it. We transcend the touches of our ego that cloud our co-creations. The talents and gifts of all present merge. There is an all encompassing light that is shared with all.

The group experience awakens the dedication of each individual on his or her path. The beautiful, loving energies of each individual are heightened. As each individual develops his or her natural talents, the entire group benefits and evolves.
