On October 8, 2001, at 7 pm New York time[2], the public is invited to honor and remember those who died on September 11, while at the same time celebrating John Lennon's birthday.

Lynn Cousino Saldanha, hosting the event through the LennonTask website, had this to say:

Remember John Lennon now. That's all I can say. Remember the imperfect and relatable man who he was, and know that his spirit still lives, still assists, and is still pushing to bring the world to peace.

In light of the events from the past days, with kindness coming from horrific acts of terror, somehow those many who have been tangibly touched by the real spirit of the man can now find purpose and strength to serve their world around. Some comfort, I suppose, in our time of need, to know there is still hope for the world and her peace. To know we all are that hope.
The meeting will take place at Strawberry Fields Park, Central Park, New York City, across from the Dakota, where John Lennon lived.

  1. Pictured is a black-and-white mosaic set in a Strawberry Fields pathway and containing the single word "Imagine" — the title of a popular Lennon song. Almost every day someone leaves a gift to Lennon's memory, like the roses shown here.
